Chevy Suburban Buying Guide: Years to Avoid & Common Problems

Chevy Suburban Buying Guide: Years to Avoid & Common Problems

ejaz

Alright so Ive been working on Chevy Suburbans for probly like 14 years now maybe even longer honestly I kinda lost track at this point and if theres one thing I can tell you its that some years are absolutley fantastic and some years are complete disasters man like seriously. Just last week actualy I had this customer come in with a 2007 Suburban and the transmission was completly shot at only 95000 miles which is crazy cause thats not even that high you know like most transmissions should last way longer than that. Turned out it needed a complete rebuild which cost him like 3200 bucks maybe even more with labor I dont remember exactly but it was alot. He was not happy at all I mean who would be right like nobody wants to spend that kind of money on a car repair especialy when the cars not even worth that much anymore.

The Suburban has been around since like 1935 but the modern ones most people are looking at started in the 1990s and thats what Im gonna focus on here cause the older ones are hard to find parts for. Ive probly worked on over 300 Suburbans at this point maybe more I honestly stopped counting after like 200 or something cause after a while they all start to blend together you know. And Ive seen everything from Suburbans that run perfect at 250000 miles to ones that are falling apart at 70000 miles which is just ridiculous I mean how does that even happen. The year you buy makes a huge huge difference like night and day difference Im telling you.

So let me save you from making an expensive mistake ok. This guide is everything Ive learned from actualy working on these big SUVs every single day in my shop like literaly every day. Im gonna tell you exactly which years to avoid which years are the best to buy what common problems to watch for and how to spot a good Suburban from a bad one cause theres definately a difference. This is real world experience not just stuff I read online or heard from somebody else you know what I mean.

What Makes the Chevy Suburban Different – My Perspective

Chevy Suburban generations timeline showing evolution from 1992-2026

The Chevy Suburban is Chevys full-size SUV and its been competing with cars like the Ford Expedition GMC Yukon XL and Nissan Armada for decades now like forever basicaly. Ive worked on all of them and honestly the Suburban when you get a good year is a realy solid vehicle like realy realy solid. Comfortable reliable and way cheaper to fix than alot of imports which is nice cause import parts can get expensive real quick.

Chevy Suburban generations timeline
Chevy Suburban generations timeline

The thing is the Suburban has gone through like 11 or 12 generations since 1935 maybe even more I forget and each generation has completly different problems like totaly different. The GMT400 generation from 1992 to 1999 had transmission issues. The GMT800 generation from 2000 to 2006 had brake problems. The GMT900 generation from 2007 to 2014 had horrible transmission and oil consumption issues. You realy gotta know what your getting into before you buy one of these cause if you dont you could end up with a lemon.

What I like about the Suburban is that parts are cheap and easy to find like realy easy. Ive got a whole shelf in my shop just for Suburban parts cause I work on so many of them its crazy. Labor is usualy cheaper too cause theyre pretty simple to work on compared to some other SUVs especialy compared to like European SUVs or something. But if you buy a bad year your gonna be in my shop every other month spending hundreds of dollars maybe even thousands depending on whats wrong.

Chevy Suburban Years to Avoid – The Complete List

Years to avoid chart with red yellow green color coding for 1992-2026

Alright so heres the part everyone wants to know like this is what people always ask me about. After working on literaly hundreds of Suburbans over 14 years these are the years I tell people to stay completly away from like dont even look at them. Trust me Ive seen enough of these problems to know which years are trouble I mean Ive seen it all at this point.

Chevy Suburban Years to Avoid - The Complete List
Chevy Suburban Years to Avoid – The Complete List

2007 Suburban – The Absolute Worst Year

This is the big one like the really big one Im serious. The 2007 Chevy Suburban is hands down the worst year Ive ever worked on and Ive probly seen like 50 of them come through my shop with major problems maybe even more than that I stopped keeping track. If someone asks me should I buy a 2007 Suburban my answer is always absolutley not like dont even think about it just walk away and find something else anything else would be better.

Major Problems with 2007:

Transmission Failures: The 2007 Suburban especialy with the 6-speed automatic transmission has horrible transmission issues like realy realy bad the worst Ive seen. The transmission fails completly usualy between 80000 and 120000 miles which is way sooner than it should I mean most transmissions should last way longer than that. When it fails you get slipping hard shifting and eventualy the transmission just quits working completly.

I remember one customer had a 2007 Suburban with only 95000 miles and the transmission failed while he was towing his boat like just driving down the highway. Transmission completly gave up like it wouldnt even go into gear. Had to get it towed to my shop which cost him like 200 bucks just for the tow. Then the transmission rebuild cost him like 3200 bucks maybe even 3500 with labor I forget exactly. He was so mad cause the car wasnt even that old and he took good care of it too like regular fluid changes and everything.

Airbag Deployment Issues: The 2007 has serious airbag problems where the airbags dont deploy correctly in a crash which is super dangerous. There were like 577 NHTSA complaints about this year which is crazy like thats the highest number of complaints for any Suburban year. Some people got in accidents and the airbags didnt go off at all which could be deadly.

Other Problems: Dashboard cracking power steering issues electrical problems like all kinds of random stuff. The 2007 just has way too many problems to be worth buying like way way too many I cant even count them all.

If you see a 2007 Suburban for sale even if its cheap just walk away like seriously just dont do it. The repair costs will be way more than you save on the purchase price I guarantee it Ive seen it happen so many times.

2015 Suburban – Brake System Nightmare

The 2015 Suburban is another year I tell people to avoid like seriously just dont buy it I cant stress this enough. This year had 512 NHTSA complaints which is crazy like thats alot of complaints for one year. Ive worked on probly 35 of these and they always have some kind of brake problem like always theres something wrong with the brakes every single one Ive seen has had issues.

What Happens: The brake system on the 2015 fails after like 55000 to 60000 miles which is way too early. The brakes just stop working properly like you press the pedal and nothing happens or it takes way longer to stop than it should. Super dangerous especialy if your on the highway or something going fast with a full load.

I had one customer with a 2015 Suburban and the brakes failed while she was driving with her kids in the car like right on the highway. She said she pressed the brake pedal and it went all the way to the floor and the car barely slowed down. Scared her half to death she said she thought they were gonna crash for sure. Had to pump the brakes multiple times to get the car to stop.

Repair Costs: Brake system repairs on the 2015 are expensive too like realy expensive. A complete brake system overhaul costs like 1200 to 1800 bucks depending on whats wrong. Sometimes its the master cylinder sometimes its the brake lines sometimes its the ABS module. Either way its expensive and dangerous.

Other Problems: The 2015 also had transmission problems power steering issues and electrical faults like all kinds of stuff. Not as bad as the 2007 but stil enough problems that I dont recommend it to anybody who asks me.

2016 Suburban – Safety Concerns

The 2016 Suburban had over 230 NHTSA complaints and some serious safety issues that make me nervous about recommending it.

Rollover Protection: The 2016 only got a 3-star rollover protection rating from NHTSA which is pretty bad for a big SUV. These things are top-heavy and can roll over easier than you think especialy if you swerve or take a corner too fast.

Brake Problems: The brakes on the 2016 dont engage properly at low speeds which is super anoying and dangerous. Like your pulling into a parking spot and you press the brake and nothing happens for a second then it suddenly grabs. Can cause you to rear-end somebody if your not carefull.

Climate System Issues: The AC and heating system on the 2016 fails all the time like constantly. AC blows warm air heater doesnt work blower motor stops working. Ive replaced so many blower motors on 2016 Suburbans I lost count probly like 15 or 20 at least.

Transmission Issues: Some 2016 Suburbans have transmission problems too especialy the 6L80E transmission. Torque converter issues rough shifting delayed engagement. Repair costs like 1500 to 2500 bucks depending on whats wrong.

The 2016 is better than the 2007 or 2015 for sure but I stil wouldnt recommend it to be honest. Too many safety concerns and first-year redesign problems you know like they didnt work out all the bugs yet.

2008-2009 Suburban – Oil Consumption Disaster

The 2008 and 2009 Suburbans especialy the ones with the 5.3L V8 Vortec engine have horrible oil consumption problems like realy realy bad.

Active Fuel Management (AFM) Problems: The AFM system on these engines is supposed to save fuel by deactivating cylinders but it causes all kinds of problems. The piston rings wear out way too early and the engine starts burning oil like crazy. Customers come in saying they have to add a quart of oil every 1000 miles which is insane. Thats not normal at all like not even close to normal.

I had one customer with a 2009 Suburban and the engine was burning so much oil it was leaving blue smoke out the exhaust. Turned out the piston rings were completly shot and the PCV valve was bad too. Had to do a complete engine rebuild which cost him like 4500 bucks maybe even 5000 with labor. He was not happy at all about spending that much money I mean I wouldnt be either.

Dashboard Cracking: The 2008-2009 also have horrible dashboard cracking issues. The dashboard cracks around the airbag and instrument cluster cause they used cheap plastic. Looks terrible and can be expensive to fix if you want to replace it.

Airbag Issues: The 2008 had 410 NHTSA complaints with 137 of them about airbag deployment problems. Same issue as the 2007 where airbags dont deploy correctly in a crash.

2004 Suburban – Electrical Nightmare

The 2004 Suburban had over 500 NHTSA complaints mostly about electrical problems.

Speedometer Issues: The speedometer on the 2004 shows the wrong speed or doesnt work at all. Super dangerous cause you dont know how fast your going. Sometimes it bounces around sometimes it just stops working completly.

ABS Problems: The anti-lock braking system on the 2004 doesnt engage at low speeds. The ABS light comes on and the brakes dont work right. Can cause longer stopping distances which is dangerous.

Other Electrical Issues: Power windows not working door locks failing dashboard lights flickering. The whole electrical system on the 2004 is problematic I mean its pretty bad actualy.

Other Years to Approach with Caution

2001-2003: Lower reliability ratings higher chance of engine or transmission problems higher ownership costs. Not terrible but not great either I wouldnt buy one unless it was realy cheap and had good maintenance records.

2013-2014: Excessive oil consumption with the 5.3L V8 dashboard cracking transmission line wear when towing. Better than 2007-2009 but stil has issues especialy if your looking at one with higher mileage.

Best Chevy Suburban Years to Buy – My Recommendations

Okay so now for the good news. There are actualy some realy good Suburban years out there that I recommend all the time like these are solid vehicles. These are SUVs Ive worked on that have proven to be reliable and dont have major issues.

2010 Suburban – The Sweet Spot

The 2010 Chevy Suburban is hands down one of the best years of the GMT900 generation like no question about it. This year got excellent reliability scores from J.D. Power and had way fewer problems than the 2007-2009 models.

Why I Like 2010:

  • Strong reliability ratings across the board
  • Only 227 NHTSA complaints (way less than 2007)
  • Engine and transmission are reliable
  • Excellent resale value
  • Parts are stil easy to find

Ive worked on probly 25 of the 2010 models and havent seen any major problems like nothing serious at all. Just regular maintenance stuff like brakes oil changes tires you know the normal stuff. Thats what you want in a vehicle just normal wear and tear not major expensive repairs.

One customer has a 2010 Suburban with like 180000 miles on it and its stil running strong like realy strong actualy. He does oil changes every 5000 miles and hasnt had any major repairs at all just normal stuff. Thats the kind of reliability you want from a vehicle you know where it just keeps going and going without breaking down all the time.

2018-2020 Suburban – Latest Generation Excellence

The 2018 2019 and 2020 Suburbans are generaly the best and most reliable. These are the newest ones before the complete redesign and they have way better technology and safety features.

Why These Years Are Good:

  • Significant improvements over 2015-2016
  • Fewer than 50 NHTSA complaints for 2018
  • Modern safety features like automatic emergency braking
  • Better fuel economy than older models
  • Improved infotainment system
  • Good reliability scores from J.D. Power

The 2018 especialy got “Great” scores from J.D. Power which is realy good. The 2020 had fewer than 20 NHTSA complaints and strong resale value ratings. Ive worked on probly 15 of these newer ones and havent seen any major problems yet like nothing major. Just regular maintenance like oil changes tire rotations that kind of stuff.

The only downside is theyre more expensive cause theyre newer. But if you can afford it you get a way better vehicle for the money.

2019 Suburban – High Reliability

The 2019 is especialy good cause it has high reliability ratings and lower ownership costs compared to other years. This is the year they introduced the RST trim with the 420-horsepower 6.2L V8 which is a beast of an engine.

Ive seen 2019 Suburbans with over 100000 miles that are stil running pretty good. The key is regular maintenance and fixing problems early before they get worse and more expensive you know.

2000 and 2006 – GMT800 Generation Gems

If you want something older and cheaper the 2000 and 2006 Suburbans are pretty solid. These are from the GMT800 generation and they have fewer complaints than the GMT900 models.

What I Like:

  • Fewer NHTSA complaints
  • More reliable than 2007-2014
  • Parts are cheap and easy to find
  • Good value for used SUV buyers

The 2000 was a complete redesign with a more rigid frame and upgraded interior. The 2006 is often called the “beloved child” of its generation cause of the engine and tech upgrades.

Ive seen 2000 and 2006 Suburbans with over 200000 miles that are stil running. The key is regular maintenance and fixing problems early.

One customer has a 2006 Suburban with 215000 miles that he uses for his landscaping business so he drives it alot and hauls heavy equipment. Beats it up every day and it just keeps going like it wont quit. He does oil changes every 5000 miles and transmission fluid every 60000 miles and thats probly why its lasted so long.

2011-2013 – Decent Mid-Generation Options

The 2011 2012 and 2013 Suburbans are okay if you avoid the oil consumption issues. The 2013 especialy had under 100 NHTSA complaints and was praised for towing capacity and comfortable ride.

These arent my top recommendations to be honest but if you find one with good maintenance records and a clean inspection they can be decent vehicles for the money. Just make sure to get a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic you trust before you buy cause you dont want any surprises.

Overall the newest generation has fewer mechanical problems but more electrical and software issues cause of all the technology.

Chevy Suburban Transmission Problems – The Deep Dive

6-speed automatic transmission diagram showing problem areas

Transmission problems are a huge issue with certain Suburban years especialy 2007 and 2015-2016. Let me explain exactly what happens and what it costs to fix cause Ive done probly 60 transmission repairs on Suburbans over the years.

Chevy Suburban Transmission Problems
Chevy Suburban Transmission Problems

Common Transmission Symptoms

Hard Shifting: The transmission shifts with a hard clunk especialy from 1st to 2nd gear or 2nd to 3rd you can realy feel it. Feels like someone kicked the vehicle from behind thats how hard it shifts sometimes.

Slipping: The engine revs up but the vehicle doesnt accelerate. The transmission is slipping between gears. This is bad and usualy means major repairs are coming soon.

Delayed Engagement: You shift from park to drive or reverse and it takes a few seconds for the transmission to engage like the cars thinking about it. Sometimes it clunks when it finaly engages which can be scary.

Complete Failure: The transmission just stops working completly. Wont go into any gear at all. Vehicle has to be towed which costs extra money.

What Causes These Problems

From what Ive seen the problems are usualy:

  • Worn transmission fluid that hasnt been changed in a long time
  • Faulty torque converter
  • Internal clutch pack wear
  • Transmission control module glitches
  • Valve body problems

The 2007 models especialy had issues with the 6-speed automatic transmission just being poorly designed. The 2015-2016 models have torque converter problems that cause shuddering and slipping.

Repair Costs

Ive done probly 60 transmission repairs on Suburbans and heres what they cost:

  • Transmission fluid change and filter: 250 to 400 bucks (sometimes helps)
  • Torque converter replacement: 1500 to 2500 bucks
  • Transmission rebuild: 2500 to 4000 bucks
  • New transmission: 4000 to 6000 bucks

One customer spent 3500 bucks on a transmission rebuild for his 2007 Suburban with only 95000 miles which is crazy. He was not happy at all about spending that much money I mean I wouldnt be either.

Brake System Problems – Safety Concern

Brake system diagram with common failure points highlighted

The brake issue on Suburbans especialy 2015 and 2016 is honestly one of the scariest problems Ive seen cause brakes are so important for safety. Let me explain what happens.

Brake System Problems
Brake System Problems

Complete Brake Failure

Ive had probly 25 customers come in with Suburbans where the brakes just stopped working properly. The brake pedal goes all the way to the floor and the vehicle barely slows down. Super dangerous especialy if your driving with kids or towing a trailer.

One customer was driving her 2015 Suburban on the highway with her three kids in the back when the brakes failed. She said she pressed the pedal and it went to the floor and nothing happened. She had to pump the brakes multiple times and downshift to get the vehicle to slow down. Scared her so bad she sold the Suburban right after I fixed it.

What Causes It

The Suburban brake system is complex with lots of components that can fail:

  • Master cylinder failure
  • Brake line corrosion or damage
  • ABS module problems
  • Brake fluid leaks
  • Hydro-boost issues

Sometimes its one thing sometimes its multiple things at once. The problem is it can happen without much warning.

Repair Costs

  • Master cylinder replacement: 400 to 800 bucks
  • Brake line repair: 300 to 600 bucks
  • ABS module replacement: 800 to 1500 bucks
  • Complete brake system overhaul: 1200 to 1800 bucks

Ive done probly 20 complete brake system overhauls on Suburbans. Most common on 2015-2016 models but also seen it on older ones too.

Oil Consumption Problems – Engine Damage Risk

The oil consumption issue on 2008-2014 Suburbans with the 5.3L V8 is a serious problem that can lead to engine damage if you dont stay on top of it.

How Bad Is It

Some of these engines burn a quart of oil every 1000 miles which is crazy. If you dont check your oil regularly and keep adding it the engine can run low on oil and damage itself. Ive seen engines seize up completly cause the owner didnt realize it was burning oil.

What Causes It

The Active Fuel Management (AFM) system is the main culprit. When cylinders deactivate to save fuel it causes extra wear on the piston rings and valve seals. The PCV valve also fails and causes oil to get sucked into the intake.

Warning Signs

  • Blue smoke from the exhaust especialy when accelerating
  • Oil level dropping between oil changes
  • Rough idle or misfires
  • Check engine light with codes for misfires

Repair Options

  • PCV valve replacement: 100 to 200 bucks (sometimes helps)
  • AFM delete kit: 500 to 1000 bucks plus labor
  • Piston ring replacement: 2000 to 3000 bucks
  • Complete engine rebuild: 4000 to 6000 bucks

Some people just disable the AFM system with a tuner which costs like 300 to 500 bucks and can help prevent the problem.

Buying a Used Chevy Suburban – My Inspection Checklist

Alright so if your gonna buy a used Suburban despite all the problems Ive talked about heres exactly what I check when customers ask me to do a pre-purchase inspection.

Test Drive Checklist

Transmission:

  • Drive it for at least 30 minuts to warm everything up
  • Pay attention to how it shifts especialy 1st to 2nd gear
  • Try accelerating hard and see if it hesitates or slips
  • Shift from park to drive and reverse multiple times
  • Listen for any whining grinding or clunking noises

Brakes:

  • Test the brake pedal it should feel firm not spongy
  • Try hard braking from highway speeds
  • Listen for any grinding or squealing
  • Make sure it stops strait without pulling to one side
  • Check if ABS engages on slippery surfaces

Engine:

  • Listen for any ticking rattling or knocking noises
  • Check for rough idling or misfires
  • Make sure check engine light isnt on
  • Look for any oil leaks or coolant leaks
  • Check oil level and condition

Steering:

  • Turn the wheel all the way left and right while parked
  • Drive slow in a parking lot and make tight turns
  • Get on the highway and make sure steering feels normal
  • Check for any weird noises or resistance

Under the Hood Inspection

Fluids:

  • Check transmission fluid color should be red not brown or black
  • Engine oil should be clean not sludgy
  • Coolant should be full and the right color
  • Look for any leaks anywhere especialy around seals

Belts and Hoses:

  • Look for cracks or wear on serpentine belt
  • Check all hoses for leaks or soft spots
  • Make sure battery terminals are clean

Engine:

  • Look for oil leaks around valve covers and oil pan
  • Check for coolant leaks especialy around water pump
  • Make sure all caps are tight
  • Look at the condition of the air filter

Underneath Inspection

Frame and Body:

  • Check for rust especialy on older vehicles
  • Look at the frame for damage or cracks
  • Check for any accident damage

Suspension:

  • Look for leaking shocks or struts
  • Check ball joints and tie rod ends for wear
  • Make sure nothing is loose or broken

Exhaust:

  • Look for rust or holes in the exhaust system
  • Make sure catalytic converter is stil there
  • Check for any leaks

Maintenance Records

This is super important like realy important. I always tell people to ask for maintenance records. You wanna see:

  • Regular oil changes every 5000 to 7000 miles
  • Transmission fluid changes every 60000 miles
  • Any major repairs that were done
  • Recall work if applicable

If the seller cant provide any maintenance records thats a huge red flag like a really big red flag. Walk away and find something else cause that usualy means they didnt take care of the vehicle.

Get a Pre-Purchase Inspection

Even if you know about cars I always recommend getting a pre-purchase inspection from a mechanic you trust. It costs like 150 to 200 bucks but it can save you thousands.

Ive found so many problems during pre-purchase inspections that the buyer had no idea about. Bad transmissions leaking engines worn out suspension frame damage. Way better to find out before you buy than after.

Chevy Suburban Maintenance Tips – Keep It Running

If you already own a Suburban or your gonna buy one heres how to keep it running as long as possible based on what Ive seen work over the years.

Regular Maintenance Schedule

Oil Changes: Every 5000 miles with synthetic oil. I dont care what the owners manual says about longer intervals especialy with the AFM engines. Change it at 5000 and your engine will last way longer.

Ive seen engines with 250000 miles that had oil changes every 5000 miles and they were stil running perfect like brand new almost.

Transmission Fluid: Change it every 60000 miles especialy on 2007-2016 models. The manual says lifetime fluid but thats not true at all. Fresh fluid can prevent alot of transmission problems.

Costs like 250 to 400 bucks and its worth every penny trust me.

Brake Fluid: Change every 3 years. Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time and can cause brake problems and corrosion.

Coolant: Flush and replace every 60000 miles. Old coolant can cause overheating and engine damage.

Prevent Common Problems

Oil Consumption (2008-2014 models): Check your oil level every 1000 miles. If its burning oil keep adding it and consider getting the AFM system disabled. Catching it early can prevent engine damage.

Transmission (2007 and 2015-2016 models): Get the transmission fluid changed at 30000 miles and again at 60000 miles. Use only GM approved fluid. Have a mechanic check for any issues early.

Brakes (2015-2016 models): Have the brake system inspected every year. If you feel any weirdness with the pedal get it checked imediately like dont wait. Brake problems can be deadly.

Dashboard Cracks (2007-2014 models): Use a sunshade to protect the dashboard from UV damage. Wont prevent it completly but can slow it down.

DIY Maintenance

Some stuff you can do yourself to save money:

Air Filter: Change every 15000 miles. Super easy takes 10 minuts. Costs like 25 bucks.

Cabin Filter: Change every 15000 miles. Also easy. Costs like 20 bucks.

Wiper Blades: Replace once a year. Costs like 40 bucks for both.

Battery: Clean the terminals once a year with baking soda and water. Check the voltage with a multimeter.

When to See a Mechanic

Dont ignore warning signs. If you notice any of these get it checked right away:

  • Check engine light
  • Transmission problems
  • Brake problems
  • Weird noises from engine or transmission
  • Oil or coolant leaks
  • Overheating
  • Electrical issues

Catching problems early can save you thousands of dollars in repairs. Ive seen people ignore a check engine light for months and then the problem gets way worse and way more expensive to fix.

Price:

  • Yukon XL usualy costs a bit more especialy Denali trim
  • Suburban can be cheaper for similar features

Reliability

From what Ive seen working on both the reliability is about the same. They have the same engines and transmissions so they have the same problems. A 2007 Yukon XL has the same transmission issues as a 2007 Suburban. A 2015 Yukon XL has the same brake problems as a 2015 Suburban.

So when your choosing between them it realy comes down to personal preference and price not reliability.

Seating Capacity – 7 or 8 or 9 Passengers

Another common question is how many people can a Suburban seat. The answer depends on the configuration.

Standard Configuration

Most Suburbans come with seating for 8 or 9 passengers:

8-Passenger Configuration:

  • Front bucket seats (2 passengers)
  • Second row bench seat (3 passengers)
  • Third row bench seat (3 passengers)
  • Total: 8 passengers

9-Passenger Configuration:

  • Front bench seat (3 passengers)
  • Second row bench seat (3 passengers)
  • Third row bench seat (3 passengers)
  • Total: 9 passengers

The 9-passenger setup is less common and usualy only available on base trims. Most people get the 8-passenger with front bucket seats cause its more comfortable.

Captain’s Chairs Configuration

Some Suburbans come with second row captain’s chairs which reduces seating to 7 passengers:

7-Passenger Configuration:

  • Front bucket seats (2 passengers)
  • Second row captain’s chairs (2 passengers)
  • Third row bench seat (3 passengers)
  • Total: 7 passengers

This is popular cause the captain’s chairs are more comfortable and theres a walkway to the third row. But you lose one seat.

So to answer the question is Suburban a 7 or 8 seater it depends on the configuration. It can be 7 8 or even 9 passengers depending on what you get.
