- Ford Maverick Years to Avoid: Worst & Best Models (2022-2026) - January 26, 2026
So last Tuesday a young guy came into my shop. Maybe 25 years old. Super excited. He found a used 2022 Ford Maverick on Facebook Marketplace. Only 18 grand. Thought he scored the deal of the century. Asked me to check it out before he bought it.
I took one look at the VIN and told him straight up. Dont do it man. That 2022 is gonna cost you way more than you save. He got mad at first. Thought I was trying to upsell him or something. But after I showed him what I see in my shop every week he thanked me and walked away.
Been wrenching on trucks since 2010. Seen a lot of vehicles come and go. The Ford Maverick is actually pretty cool when you get the right year. Cheap to buy. Sips gas like a Prius. Perfect size for city driving. But that first year? Man oh man. Ford rushed it out the door and it shows.
Let me walk you through every single year of the Maverick. The good the bad and the downright ugly. No sugar coating. Just straight talk from someone who fixes these things when they break.
Why Everyone Went Crazy for This Little Truck
Okay so before I trash talk the problem years let me explain why people love this truck so much. Because they do. Like a lot.

Ford dropped the Maverick in 2021 for the 2022 model year. Starting price was something like 19995 dollars. You read that right. Under 20 grand for a brand new pickup truck. In 2022 when everything else cost an arm and a leg.
And get this. The base engine is a hybrid. Not some wimpy eco thing either. It actually works. Gets over 40 miles per gallon in the city. My customers who bought the good years tell me they fill up maybe twice a month. Thats insane for a truck.
The size is what really sells it though. Its not some massive beast that needs two parking spots. You can parallel park this thing. Fits in your garage. Doesnt stick out a mile when you pull into a spot at Costco. But the bed is still big enough to haul a couch or a bunch of lumber from Home Depot.
Ford basically said hey what if we made a truck for normal people who dont need to tow a house. And people went nuts. Dealers had waiting lists six months long. Some were charging 10 or even 15 grand over sticker. People were paying it too because nothing else came close.
My buddy Steve bought one in 2024. Loves the thing. Uses it for his landscaping business. Hauls mowers and tools all week. Gets 38 mpg doing it. Says its the best work vehicle he ever owned. But he specifically avoided the early years after I warned him.
That 2022 Model Year Was a Total Disaster
Alright here we go. The year you absolutely positively need to avoid. The 2022 Ford Maverick. First year of production. And boy did Ford screw it up.
I probably see two or three 2022 Mavericks in my shop every single week. Always the same problems. Always expensive to fix. Always pissed off owners who thought they got a deal.

Those Brakes Were Straight Up Dangerous
The brake issue was the worst. And I mean the worst. The truck would grab the brakes super hard at low speeds. Like you are creeping through a parking lot going maybe 5 miles per hour. Suddenly WHAM. Brakes lock up. Truck jerks to a stop. Scared the hell out of people.
Had this one lady come in almost in tears. Said she was pulling into her driveway with her kid in the back seat. Brakes grabbed so hard the kid hit his head on the seat in front of him. She thought something was gonna fly through the windshield. Nope. Just Fords garbage brake programming.
Ford said it was a software thing. Released like three different updates. Some trucks got better. Some didnt. Some got worse. Total crapshoot.
But wait theres more. The rear brakes wore out stupid fast. I had a 2022 come in with 12000 miles on it. Twelve thousand. Rear pads were metal on metal. Rotors were toast. Thats not normal wear. Thats a design problem.
Charged the guy 800 bucks for new pads and rotors all around. He was livid. Truck was barely a year old. Ford wouldnt cover it under warranty because they said it was normal wear. Bull. I see F150s go 60000 miles on original brakes. This was defective.
The EcoBoost models had it worse than the hybrids for some reason. Maybe the extra weight. Maybe the different brake calibration. Either way if you see a 2022 EcoBoost run away.
Electrical Gremlins Everywhere
Oh man the electrical problems. Where do I even start.
Trucks wouldnt start. Just click click click. Battery tested fine. Starter tested fine. Alternator fine. Something in the computer was fried. Had to replace the whole body control module on one. 1400 dollars. Truck had 6000 miles.
Some would stall while driving. Just lose all power. One guy told me he was merging onto the highway. Truck died right in the merge lane. Almost got rear ended by a semi. Scared him so bad he traded it in the next day.
The infotainment screen was a joke. Would freeze up. Reboot randomly. Sometimes just go black and stay black. You lose your backup camera when that happens. Your climate controls. Everything runs through that stupid screen.
I had one 2022 that came in three times for the same problem. Truck would go into limp mode. Check engine light. Wouldnt go over 30 miles per hour. First time we cleared the codes and it was fine for a week. Second time we replaced a sensor. Third time we had to replace the powertrain control module. 1200 bucks. Owner was so done with it.
The Airbag Recall That Made National News
This one was bad. Real bad. Ford recalled something like 65000 Mavericks because the side curtain airbags were defective. They wouldnt deploy right in a crash. Failed government safety tests.
Think about that. You get T-boned at an intersection. Those airbags are supposed to protect your head. But they dont work. You could die. All because Ford rushed the truck to market.
They fixed it eventually. But it shows you how half-baked the 2022 was. They were finding problems after trucks were already on the road. Thats not how you launch a vehicle.
Vibrations That Felt Like the Truck Was Falling Apart
Tons of owners complained about vibrations. Whole truck would shake when you accelerated. Felt like you were driving on a gravel road even on smooth pavement.
Turned out to be bad CV axles and joints. On brand new trucks. I replaced CV axles on 2022 Mavericks with under 10000 miles. Some needed it twice because the replacement parts were junk too.
One customer said it felt like the front end was gonna fall off. Thats how bad the vibration was. Ford covered it under warranty but you had to fight them sometimes. And if you bought it used after warranty expired? Your problem now.
My Brutally Honest Opinion on 2022
Skip it. I dont care if someone offers you one for free. Well okay maybe if its free. But seriously these trucks are money pits.
Even if the previous owner got stuff fixed under warranty you dont know what else is waiting to break. The brake system is still the same design. The electrical system is still sketchy. The build quality is still subpar.
I tell every single person who asks me about a 2022 Maverick the same thing. Walk away. Pay more for a newer year. You will save money in the long run. Trust me on this.
The 2023 Got Better But Still Had Problems
Ford fixed a bunch of stuff for 2023. Not everything. But enough that it wasnt a complete disaster like 2022.
What Actually Got Fixed
The brake grabbing was mostly gone. Ford updated the software before trucks left the factory. I still heard some complaints but way less than 2022. Maybe one out of ten instead of nine out of ten.
The airbag thing was fixed. New design that actually passed safety tests. No more recalls for that issue.
Electrical problems went down. Not gone completely but better. Fewer trucks dying on the side of the road. Fewer body control modules failing. Still some issues but not as widespread.
What Still Sucked Pretty Bad
The exhaust system had problems on a lot of 2023s. Leaks. Rattles. Heat shields coming loose. Annoying but not dangerous.
Had a customer with a 2023 that sounded like a Harley Davidson. Exhaust leak at the manifold. Only 8000 miles on it. Ford fixed it under warranty but it took them three weeks to get the part.
The infotainment system still glitched out. Screen would freeze. Bluetooth would disconnect randomly. Navigation would crash. Ford kept pushing software updates but never really fixed it.
CV axles still failed on some trucks. Not as common as 2022 but it happened. Especially on the EcoBoost AWD models. Something about the torque and the all wheel drive system just ate those axles.
Some people had transmission problems. Rough shifting. Hesitation when you hit the gas. Mostly on the EcoBoost with the 8 speed automatic. The hybrid CVT seemed more reliable.
Should You Buy a 2023 Maverick
Maybe. Big maybe. If the price is significantly cheaper than a 2024 and it has a clean history then okay.
But you gotta do your homework. Check for recalls and make sure they were all done. Get a pre purchase inspection from a mechanic you trust. Not the dealers mechanic. Your own guy.
Test drive it hard. Listen for weird noises. Feel for vibrations. Check that the infotainment works. Make sure the brakes dont grab.
If everything checks out and the price is right then go for it. But I would still rather have a 2024 or newer. The peace of mind is worth the extra money.
2024 Was When Ford Finally Got It Right
Now we are talking. The 2024 Maverick is when Ford stopped screwing around and actually built a decent truck.
I see way fewer 2024s in my shop for problems. Mostly just oil changes and tire rotations. Thats what I want to see. Thats a reliable vehicle.

All the Major Improvements
The brakes finally work like they should. No more grabbing. Pads and rotors last a normal amount of time. I have 2024s with 30000 miles still on original brakes. Thats how it should be.
Electrical system is solid. Very few starting issues. Very few stalls. The computers are stable. Infotainment still has minor bugs but nothing major. Screen doesnt go black anymore.
Build quality went way up. Fewer rattles. Fewer squeaks. Paint quality is better. Panel gaps are tighter. Ford actually took their time with these.
The big news for 2024 was hybrid AWD. Before you could only get the hybrid in front wheel drive. Now you can get all wheel drive with the hybrid. Game changer for people in snow states.
My cousin lives in Minnesota. Bought a 2024 hybrid AWD. Says it handles snow better than his old Subaru. Gets 35 mpg in winter. Hes thrilled with it.
Problems That Stuck Around
Some owners still complain about cheap interior materials. Door handles feel flimsy. Plastics are hard. But thats not a reliability issue. Thats just Ford being cheap on the base models.
A few trucks had paint defects from the factory. Orange peel texture. Thin spots. Not widespread but it happens. Check the paint carefully in good light before you buy.
The ride is still pretty stiff. Bouncy over bumps. Firm on the highway. But thats by design. The truck is built to carry heavy loads. So the suspension is tuned for that. Some people love it. Some hate it. Just know what you are getting into.
My Take on the 2024 Model
This is the first year I feel good about recommending. The major problems are fixed. Reliability is solid. If you find a 2024 for a fair price jump on it.
Just test drive it first. Make sure you are okay with the firm ride. And sit in it for a while. Some people find the seats too firm. I think they are fine but everyone is different.
Also check what trim it is. The base XL is pretty bare bones. No cruise control. Manual seats. I would spend the extra money for at least the XLT.
2025 Brought Some Nice Updates
The 2025 model got some good updates. Ford kept making the truck better.

What Changed for 2025
Bigger touchscreen. Went from 8 inches to 13.2 inches. Way easier to use. Better graphics. Faster processor. Actually works like it should.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto became standard. No more plugging in your phone every time. Just get in and it connects automatically.
They added a new Lobo trim. Sits between XLT and Lariat. Gives you more options if you want something nicer than XLT but dont want to pay for Lariat.
The hybrid AWD system got refined. Better traction control. Better torque distribution. Works smoother in snow and mud.
Reliability Keeps Getting Better
I have not seen many 2025 Mavericks in my shop for actual problems. One had a bad wheel bearing at 15000 miles. Another had a faulty oxygen sensor. Normal stuff that can happen on any vehicle.
No major recalls. No widespread issues. Ford seems to have the Maverick dialed in now. They figured out the formula and stuck with it.
My neighbor bought a 2025 XLT hybrid. Drives it every day for work. 60 mile round trip commute. Gets 42 mpg. Hasnt had a single problem in 8 months. Thats what you want to hear.
Is the 2025 Worth Buying
Absolutely. Solid truck. Reliable. Good value. The updates make it even better than 2024.
If you can find one at MSRP buy it. Dealers are not marking them up as much anymore. Supply got better. You might even get a small discount if you negotiate.
The bigger screen alone is worth it. That 8 inch screen in the 2024 and earlier was too small. 13.2 inches is perfect.
2026 Is Basically a 2025 With Minor Tweaks
The 2026 just came out a few months ago. Not much changed from 2025. Which is actually good. Means Ford is not messing with a winning formula.
Whats New for 2026
New paint colors. Orange Fury Metallic looks sick. Marsh Gray is nice too if you want something more subtle.
Power sliding rear window is now available on more trim

s. Used to be Tremor only. Now you can get it on XLT and Lobo. Pretty handy if you haul stuff that sticks out past the bed.
A real spare tire is finally available as an option. Before you only got a tire repair kit. Which is useless if you blow out a sidewall. Now you can get an actual spare. Should have been standard from day one but whatever.
FWD EcoBoost is now available. Before the EcoBoost only came with AWD. Now you can save a grand by getting front wheel drive. Makes sense if you live somewhere without snow.
Too Early to Know for Sure
The 2026 is too new to really know about reliability. But based on 2025 it should be solid. Same engines. Same transmissions. Same platform.
I have not worked on any 2026s yet except for one oil change. Truck had 500 miles on it. Everything looked good. But thats not enough to judge.
Should You Buy a 2026
If you want the newest model sure. But honestly a 2025 is just as good. And you might find better deals on leftover 2025s now that 2026 is out.
The new paint colors are cool. The spare tire option is useful. But not worth paying extra for in my opinion. Unless you really want that Orange Fury.
If I was buying today I would look for a 2025 first. See what kind of deal I could get. If the 2026 is the same price then sure get the newer one. But dont pay more just for the year.
Problems You Will See on Every Year
Even the good years have some quirks. Here are things that bug people across all model years.
The Ride Is Rough and Bouncy
This is not really a defect. Its just how the truck is built. But people complain about it so I am gonna mention it.
The Maverick rides stiff. You feel every bump. Every crack in the road. Long highway trips can be tiring because you are getting bounced around.
Why? Because Ford designed it to haul heavy loads. The suspension is tuned for carrying stuff in the bed. When the bed is empty it feels harsh.
You cant really fix this. Its part of the package. If you want a smooth cushy ride buy a sedan. Trucks are not meant to ride like luxury cars.
I tell people to test drive it on rough roads before they buy. Go find some potholes. See if you can live with it. Because its not gonna change.
Interior Quality Is Pretty Cheap
The base XL trim is super basic. Hard plastics everywhere. Cheap feeling switches. Manual seats. Cloth that feels like sandpaper.
Even the nicer trims are not luxury. The Lariat is decent but its still a 40 grand truck. Not a 70 grand F150 King Ranch.
This bothers some people. Doesnt bother others. Just know what you are getting. Its a budget truck. Interior matches the price point.
My advice is skip the XL unless you are using it as a work truck. Get at least the XLT. The upgraded interior is worth the extra money.
That Bed Is Tiny
The bed is 4.5 feet long. Thats it. You cant fit a full sheet of plywood flat. You cant fit a dirt bike without dropping the tailgate.
For most people its fine. Groceries. Camping gear. Mulch. Tools. No problem. But if you need a real work truck bed this aint it.
You cant option a longer bed either. 4.5 feet is all Ford offers. If you need more space get a Ranger or F150.
I have customers who bought Mavericks thinking they could haul everything. Then they realize the bed is too small. They end up trading it in for a bigger truck. Make sure you actually measure what you need to haul.
Towing Capacity Is Limited
The hybrid can tow 2000 pounds. The EcoBoost with the tow package can do 4000 pounds. Thats not a lot.
A small camper maybe. Couple jet skis. Utility trailer. But forget about a big boat or a car trailer.
I had a guy try to tow a 5000 pound camper with his Maverick EcoBoost. Transmission started slipping after one trip. Cost him 4 grand to fix. Ford wouldnt cover it because he exceeded the tow rating.
Know the limits. Dont push it. If you need to tow heavy get an F150.
Dealer Markups Were Absolutely Insane
This was a huge problem in 2022 and 2023. Dealers were charging 10 to 20 grand over MSRP. For a truck that started at 20 grand. Ridiculous.
Its better now. Supply improved. Markups are mostly gone. But some dealers still try to pull that crap. Shop around. Call dealers in other states. Dont pay over sticker.
I had a customer who paid 38 grand for a 2022 XLT. MSRP was 26 grand. He got hosed. Truck had all those problems I mentioned. He was so mad.
Hybrid vs EcoBoost Which Breaks Less
Good question. And the answer might surprise you.
Hybrid Has Been More Reliable
The hybrid has been more reliable overall. The CVT transmission is simpler. Fewer moving parts. Less stuff to break.
The 2.5 liter engine is proven. Its been in other Ford vehicles for years. Camrys use a similar engine. Strong track record.

The electric motor adds some complexity but its been solid. Very few failures. The battery is warrantied for 8 years or 100000 miles. I have not seen a single battery failure yet.
Most of the 2022 problems were worse on the EcoBoost. The hybrid had issues too but not as many. Brakes were better. Electrical was better. Overall more reliable.
EcoBoost Has More Problems
The 2.0 liter EcoBoost is a decent engine. Makes good power. Tows more. Feels quicker off the line.
But the 8 speed automatic transmission has had more issues. Rough shifts. Hesitation. Some outright failures.
The AWD system on the EcoBoost adds more parts that can break. Transfer case. Rear differential. More maintenance. More cost.
The EcoBoost models had way more brake problems in 2022. More CV axle failures. More electrical gremlins. Just more problems across the board.
What I Tell People to Buy
If you want reliability get the hybrid. Its simpler. Proven. Cheaper to run. Way better gas mileage.
If you need towing or AWD before 2024 you had to get the EcoBoost. But now you can get hybrid AWD. Best of both worlds.
The EcoBoost is not unreliable. Just more complex. More things that can go wrong. For most people the hybrid is the smarter choice.
Plus you save a ton on gas. My customers with hybrids spend maybe 100 bucks a month on fuel. EcoBoost owners spend 200 or more. That adds up fast.
What It Actually Costs to Own One
Lets talk real numbers. Because the purchase price is just the beginning.
Gas Money Adds Up Quick
The hybrid is a champ here. 40 plus mpg in mixed driving. If gas is 4 bucks a gallon and you drive 12000 miles a year you spend about 1200 bucks on gas annually.
The EcoBoost gets around 24 mpg combined. Same driving same gas price you spend 2000 bucks a year. Thats 800 more than the hybrid every single year.
Over 5 years the hybrid saves you 4000 bucks in gas alone. That basically pays for the price difference between the two engines.
I have customers who switched from trucks getting 15 mpg to the Maverick hybrid. They are saving 200 bucks a month on gas. Thats 2400 a year. Crazy savings.
Insurance Is Pretty Reasonable
Insurance is not bad. Its not a sports car. Its not expensive to replace. Most people pay 1200 to 1800 a year for full coverage.
Younger drivers pay more. If you have tickets or accidents you pay more. But compared to other trucks its cheap.
I pay 1400 a year for my F150. My neighbor pays 1300 for his Maverick. Pretty similar.
Maintenance Costs Are Low
Oil changes are cheap. About 60 bucks if you do it yourself. 100 to 150 at a shop. The hybrid needs them every 10000 miles. EcoBoost every 7500 miles.
Tires last 40000 to 50000 miles depending on how you drive. A set of decent tires costs 600 to 800 bucks. Not bad at all.
Brakes should last 50000 miles or more on 2024 and newer. On 2022 and 2023 you might need them at 30000. Brake job runs 300 to 500 bucks.
The hybrid has less maintenance overall. No transmission fluid changes. Brakes last longer because of regenerative braking. Cheaper to own long term.
Repair Costs If You Buy the Wrong Year
If you buy a 2024 or newer repairs should be minimal. Warranty covers 3 years or 36000 miles. Powertrain is 5 years or 60000 miles.
If you buy a 2022 or 2023 budget for repairs. Especially if warranty is expired. Brake jobs. Electrical fixes. CV axles. Could easily be 1000 to 2000 a year.
I have customers with 2022s who have spent 3 grand on repairs in two years. Thats on top of the purchase price. Not worth it.
They Hold Value Pretty Well
Mavericks hold value better than most trucks. High demand. Limited supply. Prices stay strong.
A 2022 that sold for 25 grand new is still worth 18 to 20 grand used. Even with all the problems. Thats pretty good depreciation.
The hybrid holds value better than EcoBoost. Better gas mileage. Lower running costs. People want them more.
Limited editions like the Tremor hold value best. But even base models do okay. Just avoid the 2022 if you care about resale.
What I Tell People Who Ask Me
Here is my standard advice when someone asks about buying a Maverick.
Never Ever Buy a 2022
I dont care how cheap it is. I dont care if your cousin is selling it. I dont care if it looks perfect. Walk away from every single 2022 Maverick.
Too many problems. Too much risk. Even if stuff was fixed under warranty you dont know what else is lurking.
The only exception is if you get it for like 10 grand. And you are handy with tools. And you dont mind wrenching on it yourself. Then maybe.
But for normal people who just want reliable transportation? Skip 2022 completely. Not worth the headache or the money.
2023 Is Okay If You Do Your Homework
If you can get a 2023 for significantly less than a 2024 it might be worth considering. But you gotta be careful.
Get a pre purchase inspection from a good mechanic. Not the dealer. Your own guy who will actually look for problems.
Check for all recalls and make sure they were done. Test drive it hard. Listen for noises. Feel for vibrations. Check every feature.
If it passes inspection and the price is right then okay. But I would still rather spend a bit more for a 2024. The peace of mind is worth it.
2024 and Newer Are What You Want
These are the years to buy. Reliable. Well built. Most bugs worked out. You can buy with confidence.
Try to find one at MSRP or below. Dealers are not gouging as much now. You have more negotiating power.
I would rather have a base 2024 than a loaded 2023. The reliability difference is that significant.
Get the Hybrid Unless You Tow Heavy
Unless you absolutely need to tow 4000 pounds get the hybrid. Better gas mileage. More reliable. Cheaper to run.
The hybrid is plenty quick for normal driving. And now you can get it with AWD. No reason to get the EcoBoost unless you tow.
Plus you will thank yourself every time you fill up. 40 mpg is no joke. Saves you thousands over the life of the truck.
Spend Up for at Least XLT Trim
The base XL is too bare bones. No cruise control. Manual seats. Cheap everything. Save up for the XLT.
The XLT gives you cruise. Power locks and windows. Better wheels. Nicer interior. Way more comfortable to live with.
The Lariat is nice if you want leather and heated seats. But the XLT is the sweet spot for value. Thats what I would buy.
Always Check for Recalls First
Before you buy any used Maverick go to Fords website. Enter the VIN. Check for open recalls.
Make sure every single recall was completed before you hand over money. Dont trust the seller. Verify it yourself.
Some of those recalls are serious. Airbags. Brakes. Electrical. You dont want to buy someone elses problem.
Pay a Mechanic to Check It Out
Spend 100 bucks for a pre purchase inspection. Best money you will ever spend.
We check brakes. Suspension. Electrical. Fluids. Everything. We can spot problems the seller is hiding.
I have saved customers thousands by finding issues during pre purchase inspections. Blown shocks. Leaking seals. Accident damage. Stuff you cant see just looking at it.
Worth every penny. Might save you from buying a lemon.
Which Year Should You Actually Buy
Let me make this real simple for you.
Best Year Overall Is 2024 or 2025
These are the most reliable. Best built. Fewest problems. If you can afford it buy one of these.
The 2026 is good too but its basically a 2025 with new paint. No reason to pay extra unless you love Orange Fury.
I would buy a 2024 or 2025 with my own money. Thats how confident I am in those years.
Best Value Is a Good 2023
If you find a well maintained 2023 with low miles and clean history it can be a good deal. But only if its significantly cheaper than 2024.
Like if a 2024 XLT is 32 grand and you find a 2023 XLT for 26 grand. Then okay. Thats worth considering.
But if the price difference is only 2 or 3 grand? Just get the 2024. The reliability improvement is worth it.
Year to Completely Avoid Is 2022
No question. No debate. Avoid every single 2022 Maverick. Too many problems. Not worth any price.
I have seen too many people get burned by cheap 2022s. They save 5 grand upfront then spend 10 grand on repairs. Do the math.
Even if someone offers you a 2022 for free think twice. Because the repairs wont be free. And they will come.
My Final Thoughts After 14 Years of Wrenching
The Ford Maverick is actually a great truck when you buy the right year. Its affordable. Practical. Fun to drive. Perfect for people who need truck capability without the size and cost of an F150.
But you gotta be smart. The 2022 was a disaster. Ford rushed it. Cut corners. Shipped trucks with known problems. Dont be the sucker who buys one cheap and regrets it.
The 2023 was better but still had issues. If you go that route do your homework. Get it inspected. Make sure its clean.
The 2024 and newer are solid. Ford finally got it right. These are the years to buy. Reliable. Well built. You can actually trust them.
Get the hybrid unless you tow heavy. Get at least the XLT trim. Check for recalls. Get an inspection. And you will be happy.
I work on these trucks every day. I see what breaks and what doesnt. I see which years come back over and over and which ones just need oil changes.
Follow my advice and you will avoid the headaches. Buy the wrong year and you will be seeing me every month. Your choice.
Choose wisely my friend.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the worst year for Ford Maverick?
2022 is hands down the worst year. Major brake problems where the truck would grab hard at low speeds. Electrical issues causing stalls and no starts. Airbag recalls affecting 65000 trucks. Vibration problems from bad CV axles. Avoid 2022 completely even if the price seems good.
Is the 2023 Ford Maverick reliable?
The 2023 is better than 2022 but still has some problems. Exhaust leaks and rattles. Infotainment system glitches. Some CV axle failures especially on EcoBoost AWD models. Its okay if you get a good one and the price is right but 2024 and newer are more reliable overall.
What year did Ford fix the Maverick problems?
Ford fixed most major problems by 2024. The brakes work properly without grabbing. Electrical system is stable with fewer failures. Build quality improved significantly. 2024 is the first year I recommend buying without major concerns.
Should I buy a Ford Maverick hybrid or EcoBoost?
Buy the hybrid unless you need to tow 4000 pounds. The hybrid gets way better gas mileage around 40 mpg versus 24 mpg. Its more reliable with a simpler CVT transmission. Costs less to maintain. Now you can get hybrid with AWD so theres really no reason to get EcoBoost for most people.
How long do Ford Mavericks last?
Too early to know for sure since the oldest ones are only from 2022. But based on the engines and transmissions used I expect 200000 miles or more with proper maintenance. The hybrid should last longer than the EcoBoost because its simpler with fewer parts to break.
What problems do Ford Mavericks have?
The 2022 had serious brake grabbing electrical failures airbag recalls and vibrations. The 2023 had exhaust problems and infotainment glitches. The 2024 and newer have very few major problems. Common complaints across all years are stiff ride quality small bed size and cheap interior materials on base trims.
Is the Ford Maverick worth buying?
Yes if you get 2024 or newer. Its affordable practical and reliable when you avoid the problem years. Great gas mileage with the hybrid. Perfect size for city driving. Just skip the 2022 model completely and be careful with 2023.
Do Ford Mavericks hold their value?
Yes they hold value pretty well. High demand and limited supply keep prices strong. A 2022 that sold for 25000 new is still worth 18000 to 20000 used. The hybrid holds value better than EcoBoost because of better fuel economy and lower running costs.
What is the best Ford Maverick trim?
The XLT is the best value. It has cruise control power features and decent interior without costing too much. The base XL is too bare bones with manual seats and no cruise. The Lariat is nice if you want leather but XLT is the sweet spot for most buyers.
Can you tow with a Ford Maverick?
Yes but its limited. The hybrid tows 2000 pounds. The EcoBoost with tow package tows 4000 pounds. Good for small trailers jet skis or utility trailers. Not enough for big campers or car trailers. Dont exceed the tow rating or you will damage the transmission.
